None of This is True by Lisa Jewell

You have to be free in order to be in control."

I need to add the physical copy to my Bookshelf ASAP, just so I can put it alongside its bookish sisters, 'Verity' & 'The Push' (I still need to purchase the physical copy of the latter).

Unhinged. Spectacular. Odd. Sickening. Unreliable. Ghastly. Are just a few words that immediately spring to mind when I think about None of This Is True.

Please note that this book covers themes of Alcoholism, Grooming, Abuse & ASD.

When podcaster Alix celebrates her 45th birthday at a local pub, another lady, Josie, is also coincidentally celebrating her 45th birthday. As Alix's podcast series is drawing to a close, she is keen to start her next podcast series. After years of being controlled by her considerably older husband, Josie is desperate to carve a new path for her life & proposes to share her story with Alix. The recordings leave quite an impression on Alix, but not necessarily in a good way. There are questions surrounding Josie's husbands depravity, why her daughter (who is grown up) only eats baby food & does not leave her bedroom, and why her estranged daughter ran away. But, is any of it true?

This was a GREAT psychological thriller, I binged listened to it in under 48hrs 🤯 I just couldn't get enough of the plot, it consistently gave me what I wanted! I can't say too much about it as I don't want to give any spoilers.

Alix, ma'am, so you mean to tell me you didn't think to call the police earlier? Why didn't you speak to your husband properly about his drinking problem?

Josie. Well, I don't even know what to say about you Miss Lady. You and your family. Just no words.

I loved that the writing gave way to important topics as mentioned earlier, but the unreliable narration detracted from the importance of these themes and aspects of the characters. I wanted more on Nathan & the children.

The ending gave me Verity vibes, but I'm glad that my audiobook included a bonus chapter which provided me with some clarity - but tbh I was left chilled & disturbed by it.

All in all, this was a great psychological thriller, I binged this within 2 days - making this the quickest that I have listened to an audio book! I cannot wait for the TV adaptation!!!

"Hi, I'm your birthday twin, thank you for listening, and, farewell."
