Spot the difference (Book Edition)

I legit thought I was going insane last night guys. So I was doom scrolling (as ya do) on the Gram and I came across a review post of ‘The Ghosts of Gwendolyn Montgomery’ by Clarence A. Haynes. My immediatanye thought was, don't I know this girl on the cover. I began to wrack my brain for a minute or two before I typed ‘Onyi’ into my IG search bar….

I then found the cover to Onyi's sophomore novel ‘Allow Me To Introduce Myself’. I won’t lie guys, I was flabbergasted, because what do you mean Anuri is here on the cover art again but with the braids?!

I needed some type of reaffirment that I indeed wasn’t going crazy, but that this was indeed the same girl but on two different book covers.

Having just finished Kelechi Okafor’s ARC for her debut novel ‘Awakened’, I am still at a loss for words with how far AI has gone so far, and where it seemingly eventually will go too. But here, poses the issue of compromised individuality when we become lazy and employ the “creativity” of AI.

I then followed up with further investigations and I'm not completely sure of what is going on here, as it appears that both books have been “designed” by completely different designers/illustrators. But something isn’t adding up here.

Anyway, I say all this to say that The synopsis of Gwendolyn sounds very interesting & I would likely give it a read. Allow Me To Introduce Myself is an excellent read about the lack of autonomy children have in a world dominated by social media.

What are your thoughts on AI cover art? Do you have any idea as to how this duplication of cover art could have happened?
