I want to read more.
OK, so you may want to hit your reading goals this year, or alternatively, you may just want to focus a bit more on the hobby that you love. Whatever your reason, I have listed a full guide to help you achieve your reading goals.
Make time for what you enjoy
This may seem like the most basic advice, but if you want to read more, this will be the most effective way to achieve your reading goals. Set aside 20 mins to read in the morning, or during your commute to work. Word on the street is that you can often find me in the gym with my phone propped up reading via my Kindle app, lol. But in all seriousness, if you want to get the best out of what life has to offer you (in this case - books), then you have to invest in yourself & prioritise your time.
Read Novella’s
Novellas are typically books between 80-200 pages, and can be found within most genres. Typically I find that I can finish reading a novella within a few hours, or across 2 days.
Top Tip: Subscribe to Kindle Unlimited for access to millions of books that you can borrow.
Audiobooks
Listening to audiobooks is another great read to increase your reading intake. And you can forget about what the naysayers have to say, audiobooks DO count as reading. I personally love listening to audiobooks whilst driving/travelling/cooking.
Top Tip: If you have access to a Premium Spotify account, you will automatically receive 15 free audiobook hours per month for selected titles.
Set daily reading targets
This works for both lengthy and short novels, but sometimes I find it helpful to set myself daily reading targets to ensure I finish a book within a reasonable timeframe. This could be a set number of pages per day, or chapters. The choice is yours.
Read the genres that you enjoy
I've come to realise that literary fiction is a genre that I heavily struggle with, and as a result it means that I take very long to complete books within that genre, time that could have been spent reading something from a genre that I do actually enjoy.
I hope that these tips will help you in your reading journey.
